The University of Scranton is a private Jesuit university in Scranton, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1888 by William O'Hara, the first Bishop of Scranton, as St. Thomas College. In 1938, the college was elevated to university status and took the name The University of Scranton.

Master of Science in Software Engineering

The Master of Science in Software Engineering (MSSE) program is designed to develop software professionals who are knowledgeable about and skilled in the application of principles related to the development and maintenance of computer software.

The master's program provides instruction and hands-on experience in planning and analysis, design, implementation, and maintenance of computer software and documentation.

Curriculum

The MSSE program requires 36 graduate credits, divided as follows:

Fundamentals (12 credits)

  • SE 500 - Mathematics for Software Engineering
  • SE 501 - Introduction to Software Development
  • SE 504 - Formal Methods and Models
  • SE 507 - Requirements Analysis and Software Specification

Advanced courses (18 credits)

  • SE 510 - Principles and Applications of Software Design
  • SE 524 - Software Project Management
  • SE 518 - Software Security 
  • Three elective courses

Thesis project (6 credits)

  • SE 598 - Project Analysis & Design
  • SE 599 - Project Implementation and Evaluation

June 1: Application and all official documents due for admission into the fall term.
Nov. 1: Application and all official documents due for admission into the spring term.
March 1: Application and all official documents due for admission into the summer term.

Counseling programs applicants have a preferred application deadline of Nov. 15 and a standard deadline of March 1.

The following programs only accept applications to begin in the fall term:

  • Master of Health Administration
  • Master of Science in Biochemistry, Chemistry and Clinical Chemistry
  • Master of Science in Software Engineering
  • Doctor of Business Administration

In addition to completing the standard requirements for the application process, international students looking to study on campus will also have to submit the following

  • Proof of English proficiency
  • Certificate of finances scholarship letter. You are encouraged to submit a letter or statement from a bank listing the required amount of assured financial support necessary.

International students should apply to the term in which they will begin their graduate program at The University of Scranton. If you required an English transition program, please apply to Scranton for the term in which your English transition program will be completed and you are ready to begin graduate coursework.

Proof of English Proficiency

Applicants that are from non English speaking countries are required to submit proof of English proficiency. This proof can be achieved in a number of ways

I 20 Information

To be eligible to receive a form I 20 from The University of Scranton, in addition to the academic requirements, you must submit an official certificate of finances. Once you have received a full admission letter and have electronically confirmed your enrollment, the I 20 is issued. You cannot be issued an I 20 until you have been offered full admission and confirmed your enrollment.

Once your visa is approved, prior to arrival in the United States, a $6,000.00 USD non refundable enrollment deposit is required. If you enroll at The University of Scranton, this non refundable enrollment deposit will be applied directly to your first semester tuition. If you transfer your I 20 out of The University of Scranton or enter the United States on The University of Scranton I 20, but do not enroll in classes for your first semester, this $6,000 USD enrollment deposit is non refundable.

We cannot offer commission for your applicants unless the coding procedures are completed correctly. When submitting the application in the University of Scranton portal, please answer 'Yes' to the question ‘Are you currently working with an international partner agency?' Then type Indo Global Studies as the agency name.

Document Submission: All documents can be uploaded to the university application portal. Documents can be uploaded both before the application is submitted and after application submission by logging back into the university application portal. The financial documents are required to issue an admission decision.
