Arkansas State University is a public research university in Jonesboro, Arkansas. It is the flagship campus of the Arkansas State University System and the second largest university in the state. The university was founded in 1909 and is located atop 1,376 acres on Crowley's Ridge.

The Masters of Science degree in Computer Science is designed to strengthen the background of the student in advanced computing concepts involving computational problem solving and complex programming environments. The program covers topics in algorithms, computation theory, and advanced programming systems.  Students are expected to be able to construct complex software solutions for a variety of problems and systems.  Electives allow the student to focus studies in several areas, including parallel and distributed systems and programming, bioinformatics, and graphics.

Admission Requirements

Students seeking admission into the Master of Science degree program in Computer Science, must meet the admission requirements of the Graduate School.  In addition, applicants are evaluated by the Department based on the following requirements:

 

A minimum of 18 undergraduate hours in Computer Science

A minimum GPA of 3.0

A minimum GRE combined verbal and quantitative score of 300

Three Letters of Reference

A Statement of Educational Objectives and Career Goals

Assessment exam

Admitted student must take the department's Computer Science Assessment Exam on the Friday preceding the semester's start. Based on results from this exam, student may be required to successfully complete remediation courses (six credit hour accelerated courses in first semester or eight credit hour programming courses in first two semesters) in Computer Science. The topics of the assessment exam include subjects in following areas:

CS 2114: Structured Programming

CS 2124: Object-Oriented Programming & Fundamental Data Structures

CS 3113: Algorithms & Adv Data Structures

Submit a completed online application for admission and the nonrefundable application fee of $30 for U.S. Applicants/$40 for International Applicants/$50 for Doctoral Applicants to Graduate School Admissions, along with the required program documents, by the deadline on the department website.

Earned a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution (or its equivalent as determined by the Graduate School).

Achieved a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.00 scale or a 3.00 GPA on the last 60 hours.

An applicant whose native language is not English but who has completed a four-year bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution in the United States, or in any of the above mentioned countries, will be considered proficient in English. Students who have successfully completed a CEA accredited English program in the United States may also be considered proficient in English.
