Why Earn Your BS in Biology at Sacred Heart?
The Biology major emphasizes a broad training in biology by requiring an additional six upper-level biology elective courses, with at least one in each of three areas corresponding to different levels of biological organization: environmental, organismal, and molecular.
This program offers the broadest education of the four majors, prepares students for a wide variety of careers in the life sciences, and meets the requirements for admission at most graduate and pre-professional schools.
Gain real-world, worldwide experience
At SHU, you’ll have the opportunity to take courses at our Dingle, Ireland campus, including BI 104 Introduction to Coastal Ecology, BI 176 Introduction to Oceanography, BI 276 Oceanography, and BI 279 Coastal Ecology.
We also encourage you to take courses in supervised research -- you can enroll in BI 390 Supervised Research for 2-3 academic credit s-- and co-curricular activities, such as The Biology Club, Tri Beta, and the American Medical Student Association.
You will also participate in the internship program that helps build necessary experience. Recent SHU biology majors have secured internships with:
