Computer Science, B.S.

The Department of Computer Science at Saint Louis University offers both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. The B.S. is designed for students who want a greater technical depth of study. It can be paired with other science, mathematics and engineering programs.

SLU(s) accelerated masters program allows undergraduate computer science majors to earn both a bachelors degree and a masters degree in five years. Students combine a B.A. or B.S. in computer science with a masters degree in computer science, software engineering, artificial intelligence or bioinformatics and computational biology.

Computer science is an exciting, rapidly developing field with vast influence on modern society. Computer science encompasses a broad range of theories and applications. Due to the emphasis on problem-solving skills, computer science is an excellent major for students going into many fields, including technology, business, medicine and law.

Curriculum Overview

Students completing the Bachelor of Science curriculum in computer science obtain a technically rigorous and comprehensive degree modeled upon recommendations of the ABET Computing Accreditation Commission. The Bachelor of Science degree also requires 11 credits of science/engineering, including one sequence of two lab courses.

 Required Documents:

- Transcripts - All Previous Secondary Schools
- Minimum GPA - 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)

- TOEFL (80), IELTS (6.5), PTE (54), Duolingo or GAOKAO

- GAOKAO for DE (this requires an interview to verify english proficiency)

- An overall Gaokao score placing student in the middle of Tier 2 or better

- 125/100 for standard Gaokao; 100/120 for the Gaokao from the Jiangsu Province

- SAT/ACT Required for Nursing (24/1160), Physical Therapy (25/1200), & Occupational Therapy (24/1160), as well as merit scholarship consideration

- If submitting only ACT/SAT for admission, students need a 540 on ERW for SAT for DE admission and a 21 on ENG of ACT for DE admission. If not, the student will be a pathway student.

- Statement of Purpose: 400-word essay on one of the below topics:

- Discuss an event or experience in your life that helped shape you into the person you are today.

- What part of the SLU college experience are you most looking forward to as a student?

- Discuss a topic of your choice.

- WES or ECE Evaluation Required for TRANSFER applicants ONLY

- Copy of Passport

- Bank Statement (showing a minimum of $62,558) 

- Affidavit of Support

Applications for January admission must be completed by the preceding Nov. 1, 

while applications for August admission must be completed by June 1. 

Applicants seeking scholarships or graduate assistantships are encouraged to apply earlier.
