You may apply for admission using the WSU application, the Common App if you are applying as a first-year undergraduate, or through the Cialfo application if your school is a member of Cialfo. Find more information about applying to WSU on our Applications and Forms page.

Application fee

Applications must be submitted with a nonrefundable $70 application fee to be considered. Submitting the application and the fee begins the admission process and should be done as soon as possible to avoid delays. WSU cannot review your application without the $70 application fee.

There are 3 ways to meet the university’s English language proficiency requirement.

1. Language proficiency exams

WSU accepts scores from the following exams. Score reports can be uploaded into the online international undergraduate admission application at time of submission or emailed or sent by postal mail to our office.  Scores must be less than 2 years old.

August 1 Admission and scholarship applications open.

OCTOBER

Apply for University housing – The summer/fall 2024 housing application opens. All confirmed students will be notified via email when the housing application opens.

NOVEMBER

November 15 Spring application priority date.

JANUARY

January 1 The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) and Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) open. Learn more about the FAFSA and the WASFA from WSU Student Financial Services.

January 4 Attend New Coug Orientation for students enrolling spring semester. Weekend of Welcome for all new students takes place before spring semester classes begin.

Summer/fall 2024 admission application priority date to be considered for Top Scholar designation for first-year students. 

MAY

May 1 

WSU General Scholarship Application deadline (strongly encouraged)

Summer/fall 2024 admission application priority date for first-year students. Students who may be eligible for automatic academic awards, such as DUAA, UAA, and the WUE/Cougar Award should complete their application and provide required documents by this date. Admission applications will be accepted after this date on a space-available basis.

FAFSA or WASFA application priority submission date. (strongly encouraged) (WASFA for undocumented students and other select applicants)

Submit your housing application prior to May 1 for priority residence hall assignment. Housing applications submitted after May 1 will receive their assignment later in the summer.

Fraternity and sorority recruitment information goes out. If you’ve been accepted to the University and have not received this information by the end of May, contact the Panhellenic Council or Interfraternity Council for details.

JUNE

June 1 We recommend you confirm your enrollment before June 1. If you’ve been offered admission as a first-year or transfer student, confirming your enrollment secures your space at the university.

July 31 Financial aid verification documents deadline (if required).

AUGUST

August 7

Transfer student admission application priority date. Students who may be eligible for automatic academic awards, such as Cougar Award for Transfers or the WUE for Transfers should complete their application and provide required documents by this date.

Transfer students who have improved their cumulative GPA since being admitted to WSU, may resubmit the most up-to-date transcript to be re-considered for academic awards (Cougar Award for transfers or WUE for transfers). Be sure your cumulative unweighted GPA meets the award criteria before sending us your updated transcript. Transcripts must be received by WSU by August 7.

Attend a New Coug Orientation session. Check the Orientation website for available dates. This is the last chance to get registered for fall classes.

Week of Welcome for all new students takes place the week before fall semester classes begin. Be sure to attend WSU Convocation the Friday before classes start.

Scholarships

The WSU General Scholarship Application for 2024-2025 has been reopened. If you have not already filled out the application, do so before May 1st.

By applying for the WSU General Scholarship Application, you may become eligible for multiple scholarship opportunities. Even if your grades aren’t perfect, apply. Academic performance is important, but it isn’t the only thing that matters. Academic interests, talent, financial need, community service, leadership, career ambitions, campus involvement—any of these could qualify you for scholarship awards from WSU or from outside sources.

Awards can range from several hundred dollars to full coverage of tuition and expenses. In most circumstances, you can receive more than one scholarship at the same time. There’s nothing to lose…and a lot to gain. So get yourself ready and apply!
