Our program awards students a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. Having a Bachelor Degree in Dental Hygiene will provide more options for job opportunities in the future.
Our dental hygiene curriculum is designed to provide opportunities for a student to develop a sound clinical and theoretical foundation for the practice of dental hygiene.
Our graduates are prepared to fulfill the dental hygiene roles as clinician, change agent, educator, researcher, and consumer advocate as put forth by the American Dental Hygienists' Association.
Our students are also trained to place fillings, which is not typically offered at 2-year institutions.
The Dental Hygiene Program is approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)
Technology and Simulation
Our simulation lab offers state-of-the-art training for students.
A new clinic was built in 2016. Technology includes 100% computer-based patient charts, digital x-rays, and intraoral cameras.
In addition to training in the on-campus clinic, students in our program have the opportunities to work in the community, providing oral health care services in schools and the community dental clinics.
Disclosure
Due to the nature of the clinical experiences in the Dental Hygiene program, students will be participating in a work environment that has the potential of exposure to blood borne pathogens. All students accepted into the Dental Hygiene program are provided with written policy and instruction on infection control protocol to reduce the risk of disease transmission. The program complies with all institutional, local, state, and federal policies. Policies and procedures of the department’s infection control protocol are available to all applicants upon request
