The department of Computer Science offers a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) as well as a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in computer science. One of the strengths of the computer science program is the balance between theory and practice. Students are well versed in theory and programming while at the same time being exposed to real world situations thereby gaining valuable experience. Available courses include:
- Discrete Structures
- Computers in Society
- Numerical Methods
- Data Structures
- Systems Programming
Students graduating with a BSCS in Computer Science are schooled in upper-level computer science topics with a solid foundation in mathematics and the sciences. Within the BSCS degree, students select a general computer science or software engineering track. The software engineering track emphasizes the methods used to produce and maintain high-quality software in a systematic, controlled and efficient manner. Students who are acquiring their BA in computer science acquire a traditional liberal arts education with a solid set of core computer science courses.
Upon graduation, many students find positions in research, software development and other computing related fields. Many continue to graduate study as well.
Baylor offers three residential colleges for students wishing to live and invest in a community of students with similar interests. Among these is the Teal Residential College for Engineering and Computer Science located in the East Village residential area.
