A Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering provides an educational program that is high quality, academically challenging and career-enriching by maintaining a balance between theoretical and experimental aspects of computer engineering, as well as a core competency in the fundamental aspects of an engineering-oriented paradigm.

The degree further seeks to provide curricula that serve the citizens and industrial organizations in the United States and Texas in general and those in North Texas in particular.

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering has been ABET-accredited since 2006 and educates students about engineering computer software to interact with computer systems and hardware components.

The department facilitates a collegial atmosphere that is conducive to the intellectual and scholarly pursuits of the faculty and students. The department strongly encourages interdisciplinary research.

Freshman Admission Requirements 

The priority application date to be eligible for scholarships is March 1. Applications will continue to be reviewed after the priority date.

Guaranteed Admissions Requirements

Texas Top 10%

Students who rank in the top 10% of their high school graduating class are eligible for automatic admission to any public university in Texas. Eligible students must complete the university's application process to take advantage of automatic admission. 

Eagle Advantage

Juniors in participating school districts who rank in the top 20% of their class will earn guaranteed admission to UNT under the Eagle Advantage program. To be accepted into the Eagle Advantage program, qualified students need to apply to UNT and submit SAT or ACT scores.

Eagle Advantage Program 

Unweighted GPA (3.0+)

Students with a cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher are guaranteed admission to UNT. Students' GPAs will be standardized on a 4.0 GPA scale once transcripts are submitted.

Test Score Optional 

UNT is test-score-optional, however, submitting test scores can help determine admission decisions, testing exemptions and scholarship opportunities.

If you have taken the SAT or ACT, please have your scores sent to UNT electronically through the testing service.

International Applicants

International applicants must meet the criteria for freshman admission and additional steps, such as satisfying the English requirements. Be sure to review the additional requirements for international applicants.

English LAnguage Requirements

Applicants with a GED

An applicant's GED certificate of completion must reflect a minimum score of 165 on each of the four exams. Applicants with scores from 145-164 will be individually reviewed and required to submit additional documents, such as an essay and letters of recommendation.

Applicants who have completed 1-14 hours of college course work must meet a minimum college GPA requirement of 2.5 on a 4-point scale. 

Applicants with a GED

Early Admission

On an individual basis, UNT may admit high school students to the freshman class after completion of the junior year of high school. To be considered, students must:

  1. be ranked in the top quarter of their class;
  2. have a strong B average;
  3. have completed 3 units each of solid English, mathematics, social science and natural science;
  4. present minimum combined SAT (combined critical reading/verbal + math) score of 1180 or ACT composite of 26;
  5. submit letters from high school counselor or principal recommending early admission;
  6. submit a letter from parents or guardians stating they approve of early admission; and
  7. arrange an interview in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Under this program, high school seniors may be enrolled concurrently at UNT through coordination with the UNT Director of Admissions and the high school.
