For students interested in the Accelerated BS Physics to MS Materials Science and Engineering Program, please see information below and speak to your academic advisor about the opportunity. The combined BS to MSMSE program is 144 credits, 120 for the undergraduate degree and 30 credits for the master’s degree. However, up to 6 graduate hours may be counted towards both degrees. Students complete the undergraduate degree first, taking no more than 6 credits of graduate coursework in their senior year, which will then be used to satisfy both degrees.

  • Admission Criteria: Students must have a minimum 3.00 major GPA and a minimum 3.00 overall GPA. Students must provide the Program Coordinator of the Materials Science and Engineering MS Program with a copy of their UNF academic transcript and a personal statement describing their interest in the Material Science and Engineering graduate program.
  • Approved Curriculum: The graduate courses EMA5104 and EMA5114 replace the 6 credits of major electives that are normally required for the Physics BS. As the UNF Graduate School requires students to maintain a graduate GPA of at least 3.00, students are expected to get a grade of B or better in EMA5104 and EMA5114 in order to continue on to the MS program in Materials Science and Engineering. The MS program requires a total of 30 credits, so students who have completed EMA5104 and EMA5114 as part of this accelerated pathway will have 24 credits remaining to complete the MS degree.

Free Electives (10 credits)

This degree requires a minimum of 120 total hours with 48 upper (3000/4000) level hours. Free electives may be courses in any discipline (provided the required prerequisites are met) and they are the hours needed to satisfy the total hour requirement. These hours may vary (consult your advisor about free elective hours needed to graduate).

Undergraduate students are accepted each semester, except for limited access and selective access programs. Deadlines for applications and supporting documents may be found online. To be considered for admission, applicants must submit all required documents by the posted deadline.

Getting credentials and transcripts evaluated takes a considerable amount of time. In addition, sending or receiving official application materials can often take a very long time. Therefore, applicants should complete their applications as far ahead of the deadline as possible.

  • Application Forms: International students must complete and submit an application for admission.
  • Application Fee: The application fee is $30. The application fee must be in U.S. currency only (check or money order) drawn from a U.S. bank.
  • Academic Records and Credentials Evaluation: UNF will accept select international transcripts without a foreign evaluation as outlined below. All other international transcripts will require a course-by-course evaluation (post-secondary) or a document-by-document and GPA calculation evaluation (high school) by an approved third-party credential evaluation agency as outlined by the Florida Department of Education or NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services).
    • UNF does not require foreign high school evaluations. You will need to submit a copy of your high school transcript for evaluation by UNF. If your high school transcript is not in English, please have it translated to English by a translation service first. You will then need to provide a copy of the original transcript and the translated version.
    • UNF will accept international post-secondary coursework without a foreign evaluation for programs within the UNF colleges that have articulated agreements on record.
    • UNF will accept international post-secondary coursework without a foreign evaluation on transcripts that are written in English from institutions accredited by an acceptable institutional accreditor, provided that a clearly defined grading scale and credit-hour conversion is notated on the official transcript.
    • All other international post-secondary transcripts will require a Florida Department of Education or NACES approved credential evaluation agency.
  • CLT, SAT and ACT Test Scores: All lower-level transfer and freshman applicants must submit official test scores from the SAT Reasoning Test, Redesigned SAT, Classing Learning Test (CLT), or the ACT (American College Test).
  • English Proficiency: All applicants, except those from countries where English is the only official language, are required to furnish satisfactory evidence of English competency. Most applicants to the University take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). However, there are other proofs of English competency that may be used. For a listing of different methods to meet the English Proficiency requirements, please see Indicators of Required English Language Proficiency for Foreign Applicants.

In addition to meeting the academic requirements for admission, students planning to attend UNF on an international student visa (F-1) or an exchange student visa (J-1) must also satisfy immigration, health, and financial requirements as described in the All Students section of this catalog.

The following are suggested deadlines set by the International Center in order to ensure proper time for the issuing of immigration documents and visa processing. Check visa appointment wait times in your country at the U.S. Department of State website. Certain programs, such as specialized and selective access majors, and graduate programs have separate deadlines that applicants must meet.
