The Biomedical Engineering Honors Program is for highly motivated and high-achieving students, and provides special opportunities to advance the career and professional development of the student. The program aims to develop student talents, interests, and abilities within a curriculum, as well as encourage independence and creativity.

Students are eligible for the honors program in Biomedical Engineering if they have, and maintain, a cumulative GPA of 3.4 with at least junior standing, and have received approval from the departmental honors committee. The honors program in Biomedical Engineering requires a minimum of 10 hours of upper-division biomedical engineering honors courses, including both BIOM 4800 BME Honors seminar, and completion of an honors thesis (BIOM 4999). Students who complete the honors program and the requirements for the B S in Biomedical Engineering will be recognized at the commencement ceremony by having their degree conferred “With Honors in Biomedical Engineering.” Honors designation will also appear on the student’s diploma and academic transcript.

  1. All students, both freshmen and transfer, must apply online for admission undergraduate students. 
    • Freshman admission is competitive and based upon a comprehensive review of the student’s academic record. The primary factors include the high school/secondary grade point average and demonstrated English proficiency.
    • Transfer admission is competitive and based upon the cumulative grade point average of all previously attended colleges/universities (international and domestic). Your cumulative GPA must be at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale for consideration. Demonstrated English proficiency is also required of all international applicants.
  2. Pay the non-refundable undergraduate application fee of $50.
  3. Applicants should upload a copy of their official international transcript or marks sheet (high school/secondary or college/university) to their application portal.
    • Admission Requirements by Country
    • The Office of Undergraduate Admission and Orientation will conduct an initial assessment of your international transcript/marks sheet for admissions review. Receipt of official transcript/marks sheet will be required prior to enrollment.
    • After the application fee has been paid and all high school or college transcripts have been uploaded, review of the undergraduate application will begin. While the review period may vary, on average, applicants will be notified by email of a decision within 5-7 business days.
    • After admission to the UofM, all transfer students with international college/university coursework must submit their official international college transcripts/marks sheet to a credenital evaluation service in order to receive course transfer credit. (See section on Transfer Applicants) No unofficial college transcripts will be evaluated for course credit.
  4. Demonstrated English language proficiency is required of all international students.
