The University of Arizona (Arizona, U of A, UArizona, or UA) is a public land-grant research university in Tucson, Arizona, United States. Founded in 1885 by the 13th Arizona Territorial Legislature, it was the first university in the Arizona Territory. The University of Arizona is one of three universities governed by the Arizona Board of Regents. As of Fall 2023, the university enrolled 53,187 students in 19 separate colleges/schools, including the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson along with the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix and the James E. Rogers College of Law. The university is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very High Research Activity". UA also is a member of the Association of American Universities. The University of Arizona is affiliated with two academic medical centers, Banner – University Medical Center Tucson and Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix. Known as the Arizona Wildcats (often shortened to "Cats"), the UA's intercollegiate athletic teams were members of the Pac-12 Conference of the NCAA. The university joined the Big 12 Conference on August 2, 2024.[8] UA athletes have won national titles in several sports, most notably men's basketball, baseball, and softball.

The BS in Computer Science and Engineering provides a unique opportunity for students to deepen their knowledge of computer science and engineering topics by combining theory-based concepts with advanced, enabling computational techniques and technologies to create solutions that address the grand challenges of the 21st century, and beyond. The curriculum applies computer science theory and software development fundamentals to produce computing-based solutions. It includes substantial coverage of engineering principles applied to the design of large, networked, scalable computing systems. Competencies include algorithms and complexity, computer science theory, concepts of multiple programming languages, software development, and real-time, embedded and IoT systems design and other engineering principles. The program takes a holistic approach to coupling computing theory and applications with computer systems design and data science in a unified flow. The program has a firm engineering foundation that is ABET CAC / EAC compliant and encompasses a discovery-based education utilizing an experiential learning approach. As a part of the curriculum, students complete projects in nearly every semester of the program that emphasize computing theory, communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and engineering professionalism. The program's flexibility allows students to design their course of study and select technical electives from a diverse pool of courses in software, computer science and computer engineering domains such as web and mobile applications, embedded systems, cybersecurity, machine learning, systems, and other interdisciplinary areas.

Individual departments may require higher scores than the Graduate College and all tests must be dated within 2 years of the enrollment term to be considered valid.  The University of Arizona's institution code for sending official electronic score reports from ETS is 4832.

 

Acceptable English Proficiency Credentials:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - minimum score of 79 iBT or Home Edition iBT.  Individual MyBest scores must also be dated within 2 years of the enrollment term to be considered valid.

Note, for Master's programs, we also accept the TOEFL Essentials test with a minimum band score of 9.5. Individual programs may set higher English proficiency requirements, please contact your Graduate Program Coordinator if you have questions. The TOEFL Essentials Test is not an accepted test of English proficiency for doctoral programs.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - minimum composite score of 7, with no subject area below a 6 on IELTS or IELTS Online.  (The IELTS One Skill Retake is not not currently being accepted, but we are working on implementation and it will be accepted soon.)

Pearson PTE Academic - minimum score of 60

Graduate English Language Endorsement from the Center for English as a Second Language (CESL)

CEPT Full Academic test - offered by our Center for English as a Second Language (CESL), minimum Total score of 110.

The Graduate College does not accept Duolingo scores for demonstration of English Proficiency.
