The University of Arizona (Arizona, U of A, UArizona, or UA) is a public land-grant research university in Tucson, Arizona, United States. Founded in 1885 by the 13th Arizona Territorial Legislature, it was the first university in the Arizona Territory. The University of Arizona is one of three universities governed by the Arizona Board of Regents. As of Fall 2023, the university enrolled 53,187 students in 19 separate colleges/schools, including the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson along with the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix and the James E. Rogers College of Law. The university is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very High Research Activity". UA also is a member of the Association of American Universities. The University of Arizona is affiliated with two academic medical centers, Banner – University Medical Center Tucson and Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix. Known as the Arizona Wildcats (often shortened to "Cats"), the UA's intercollegiate athletic teams were members of the Pac-12 Conference of the NCAA. The university joined the Big 12 Conference on August 2, 2024.[8] UA athletes have won national titles in several sports, most notably men's basketball, baseball, and softball.

Mechanical engineering delves into the design, manufacture and maintenance of all types of machines, from medical prosthetics and robots to energy systems. Mechanical engineers are motion experts. They develop and improve airplanes and agricultural equipment, for example. They also aid in the mechanics of the most complex machine of all, the human body. Students achieving the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering study physics and materials while homing in on particular interests: dynamics and controls, mechanical design, nanotechnology, solid and fluid mechanics, or thermal sciences. Research opportunities and design projects provide real-world experience during all four years of the undergraduate degree program. Mechanical engineering students can look forward to exciting careers in nearly every industry.

Individual departments may require higher scores than the Graduate College and all tests must be dated within 2 years of the enrollment term to be considered valid.  The University of Arizona's institution code for sending official electronic score reports from ETS is 4832.

 

Acceptable English Proficiency Credentials:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - minimum score of 79 iBT or Home Edition iBT.  Individual MyBest scores must also be dated within 2 years of the enrollment term to be considered valid.

Note, for Master's programs, we also accept the TOEFL Essentials test with a minimum band score of 9.5. Individual programs may set higher English proficiency requirements, please contact your Graduate Program Coordinator if you have questions. The TOEFL Essentials Test is not an accepted test of English proficiency for doctoral programs.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - minimum composite score of 7, with no subject area below a 6 on IELTS or IELTS Online.  (The IELTS One Skill Retake is not not currently being accepted, but we are working on implementation and it will be accepted soon.)

Pearson PTE Academic - minimum score of 60

Graduate English Language Endorsement from the Center for English as a Second Language (CESL)

CEPT Full Academic test - offered by our Center for English as a Second Language (CESL), minimum Total score of 110.

The Graduate College does not accept Duolingo scores for demonstration of English Proficiency.
