Hofstra University is a private university in Hempstead, New York. Hofstra originated in 1935 as an extension of New York University under the name Nassau College – Hofstra Memorial of New York University.[6] It became independent Hofstra College in 1939[7] and gained university status in 1963. Comprising ten schools, including the Zucker School of Medicine and the Maurice A. Deane School of Law, Hofstra has hosted a series of prominent presidential conferences and several United States presidential debates.[8]

This program provides broad theoretical and experimental knowledge in physics, and is recommended for students interested in pursuing graduate work in physics, astronomy, engineering and other physical sciences. The curriculum includes required courses in writing studies and composition as well as electives in humanities and social science to give the students a general background to supplement training as a specialist. Grades of C- or better are required in all physics courses and technical electives.

Hofstra requires all undergraduate applicants from non-native English speaking countries to demonstrate English proficiency. This requirement can be met by submitting the minimum score from any one of the tests listed below. These test scores can be self-submitted, but must be issued by the testing body. The Pearson Test of English Academic (PTEA)      Score of 53 or higher;
