California State University, Chico (Chico State[7]) is a public university in Chico, California. It was founded in 1887. It is the second oldest campus in the California State University system. As of the fall 2020 semester, the university had a total enrollment of 16,630 students. The university offers 126 bachelor's degree programs, 35 master's degree programs, and four types of teaching credentials. Chico is a Hispanic-serving institution (HSI).

Master of Science in Biological Sciences

Our MS degree program offers a comprehensive background in the biological sciences, equipping you with a deep understanding of how life works—from microscopic cells to vast ecosystems. Feed your curiosity by conducting supervised research with our expert faculty and develop a deeper understanding of everything from ecology to microbiology and cellular and molecular biology to plant science.

Step 1: Are you academically eligible for admission?

Step 2: Submit an Online Application

Apply online at Cal State Apply: www2.calstate.edu/apply/international(opens in new window)When creating your account, please select "F-1 visa" as an international student. A $70 fee is payable online at the time of application.

IMPORTANT: Statement of purpose and recommenders' email addresses are required to complete the application.

Step 3: Submit Supporting Documents

Please be advised that all materials submitted during the application process become University property.

Submission Deadline

Submit all required documents/exam scores within two weeks of the application deadline. Only complete applications will be reviewed.

Send official academic records by international mail/courier:

Official degree certificates and transcripts from all universities attended after high/secondary school
  • Applicants with an Indian bachelor's degree must submit university-attested academic records (not college-attested)
  • Applicants with a Chinese bachelor's degree must also submit a graduation certificate

International students applying for a master’s degree program must meet academic performance, education, and language requirements.

Academic Performance

2.5 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) on the US 4 pt. scale and 2.5 GPA in the last 60 units/credits of an acceptable earned bachelor's degree.

Education

Completion of an equivalent to a US 4-year bachelor’s degree.

Courses

Pre-requisites vary depending on the graduate program.

English Language Proficiency

Satisfy the English Language Proficiency Requirement and submit qualifying English exam scores.

Tests

Most programs do not require test scores. The GRE exam is only required for Computer Science MS applicants whose bachelor’s degree is not from an ABET accredited school in a computer science related discipline.
