Butler University is a private university in Indianapolis, Indiana. Founded in 1855 and named after founder Ovid Butler, the university has over 60 major academic fields of study in six colleges: the Lacy School of Business, College of Communication, College of Education, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and Jordan College of the Arts. Its 295-acre (119 ha) campus is approximately five miles (8.0 km) from downtown Indianapolis.

All applicants to the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) program must possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution or the international equivalent prior to enrollment at the graduate level.

To apply, candidates should submit the following:

  • Butler Application
  • Personal Statement
  • Two Letters of Recommendation
  • Official Transcripts or copies of official transcripts from all the colleges and universities where candidates:
    • Earned a degree
    • Earned more than 15 credits (undergraduate and graduate)
    • Completed any program prerequisite (regardless of number of credit hours)
    • Completed courses for which candidates are applying for transfer credit
  • Current Résumé

International applicants must additionally submit the following:

TOEFL scores or equivalent proof of English proficiency

Applicants must meet a minimum level of proficiency in the English language and submit proof of this proficiency to the Office of Admission. Minimum proficiency can be met by any of the following exams or testing systems:

  • Duolingo: A score of 100 is required to meet Butler University’s requirements.
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): A score of 79 (iBT) meets Butler University’s English language proficiency requirements. Butler’s TOEFL school code is 1073.
  • International English Language Training System (IELTS): A score of 6.0 meets Butler’s requirements.
  • PTE Academic or PTE Academic Online: A score of 53 meets Butler’s requirements.

GMAT/GRE Exemption for Qualifying Students

GMAT/ GRE scores for candidates who meet any one of the requirements listed below are eligible for an automatic exemption and will not need to fill out a waiver form.

  • Applicants with an undergraduate cumulative college GPA of 3.0 or higher from an accredited university
  • Applicants who have received a Masters degree from an accredited university
  • Four years of full-time, professional and applicable work experience

All GMAT/GRE waivers are considered on a case-by-case basis, and an approved waiver request does not guarantee admission to the program. You are welcome to submit your scores for consideration if you meet the exemption requirements

  • A clear copy of your passport
  • Evidence of financial support
