California State University, San Bernardino (Cal State San Bernardino or CSUSB) is a public research university in San Bernardino, California. Founded in 1965, it is part of the California State University system. The main campus sits on 441 acres (178 ha) in the University District of San Bernardino, with a branch campus of 40 acres (16 ha) in Palm Desert, California, opened in 1986.

Bachelor of Science in Physics

The bachelor of science program includes appropriate course work in physics to prepare students for employment or graduate work in a variety of physics-related fields. Students are encouraged to speak to their advisor to select elective courses that will best meet their career needs. The BS in Physics requires a total of 75 units listed below; of those 7 units count towards the university's General Education requirements. 

Departmental Honors

To be awarded departmental honors in physics a student must:

  1. Achieve at least a 3.5 minimum grade point average in courses required for the major taken at California State University, San Bernardino and at least a 3.0 grade point average overall;
  2. Conduct advanced research on a topic approved by a faculty member who will serve as project director;
  3. Obtain written approval upon successful completion of the project from the project director and the chair, and present the results of the research to the department or at a research conference, and/or publish the results in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

  1. Academic Requirements:
    • Minimum 2.5 overall GPA
    • Official transcripts sealed in an envelope by your school
    • Official high school diploma sealed in an envelope by your school
  2. English Language Proficiency Requirement can be met by:
    • TOEFL (iBT 61 or PBT 500) or IELTS (5.5 total band score). Must be valid within the last two years.
    • Successful completion of level 3 of CSUSB English Language Program

Requirements for a Freshman from a U.S. High School

If you’ve been attending a high school in the United States, please use the information below to complete your application:

  1. Academic Requirements:
    • Minimum 2.5 overall GPA
    • Completion of A-G college preparatory courses with grades of “C-” or better
    • Official transcripts sealed in an envelope by your school
  2. English Language Proficiency Requirement can be met by:
    • If you attended a U.S. high school for at least three years, you may be eligible for a TOEFL waiver and will not need to take the English proficiency test. Please visit our Steps To Apply for more information.
    • TOEFL (iBT 61 or PBT 500) or IELTS (5.5 total band score). Must be valid within the last two years.
    • Successful completion of level 3 of CSUSB English Language Program
