Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU or MT) is a public University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Founded in 1911 as a normal school, the university consists of eight undergraduate colleges as well as a college of graduate studies, together offering more than 300 degree programs through more than 35 departments. The university has partnered in research endeavors with the United States Army, and the United States Marine Corps. It is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities".

Master of Science in Chemistry

At the graduate level, the Chemistry Department features a research-based Master of Science degree. After completion of core coursework in the major sub-disciplines, students in the Chemistry M.S. program have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of research experiences, including environmental, organic synthesis, natural product isolation, computational and theoretical, analytical, nanomaterials, catalysis, polymers, biochemistry, and chemical education. The research experience is considerably enhanced by MTSU’s new 250,000-square-foot science building and upgraded instrumentation. Talented undergraduates also have the opportunity to participate in a new Accelerated Bachelor’s/Master’s (ABM) program which enables them to complete a bachelor’s and master’s degree in five years. Graduates find employment in a wide range of areas as well as continuing their education in high-quality doctoral and/or professional programs. The department also participates in three interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs (Molecular Biosciences, Computational Science, and Math and Science Education).

  • The College of Graduate Studies will only correspond with the applicant directly. We welcome inquiries from family and friends, but we will only give out general information about the applicant's status.
  • All acceptance letters and additional documents will be sent directly to the applicant. Students who have changed addresses, semester of entry, or have additional questions or requests, must submit all requests in writing in a timely manner.
  • Application materials should be typed or printed neatly with all areas that pertain to the individual completed. Incomplete applications will not be processed. You must submit a permanent overseas home address for our immigration records.
  • Graduate students submitting provisional certificates (courses in progress) will have one semester from the issuance date to have their school submit to The College of Graduate Studies the conferred degree.
  • A letter of admission or denial will be forwarded to you by the College of Graduate Studies once a decision has been made. This process can take up to four weeks to completeTherefore, early completion of your file is to your benefit.
  • Your I-20 immigration document cannot be issued until your admission is complete. Therefore, make sure that you complete your admission packet with enough time for making all plans to attend the semester indicated on your application.

    1. TOEFL- IBT minimum score 71 (We ONLY accept ETS official test scores for the TOEFL); TEST CODE for MTSU is 1466
    2. IELTS- overall score of 6
    3. UMELI- minimum score 85
    4. ELS Level 112 Certificate of Completion
    5. Duolingo English Test - minimum score 95

      • English is the native language of the country of citizenship
      • The applicant has earned a bachelor's or master's degree from a U.S. accredited 4-year college or university
  • GPA of 2.75 (Grade Point Average of 4.0 scale) required for admission
  • Submit all college/university official transcripts you have earned within the U.S.
  • Submit a course-by-course evaluated transcript from a NACES evaluation service for all non-U.S. college/university transcripts. Reputable services include:
