About the Course

Master of Science in Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry offers the Master of Science in Chemistry degree with thesis and non-thesis options. The non-thesis option is intended for candidates with at least two years experience in industrial or governmental laboratories. Both options require a minimum of 30 total credit hours. To enhance confidence and poise, each student is encouraged to participate in the departmental teaching program and is required to present seminars in specialty areas. For students who choose the thesis option, these will consist of one literature and one research seminar. Non-thesis students will be required to present two seminars, one of which is ordinarily a presentation describing the industrial or governmental laboratory experience that is to be substituted for the thesis requirement. The Master of Science graduate program in chemistry is designed to prepare the student for further academic work or for immediate employment in the chemical industry. We have been quite successful in placing our graduates in both of these areas.
