The University of Bridgeport is a private university in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The university is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education. In 2021, the university was purchased by Goodwin University; it retained its own name, brand, and board of trustees.

Master of Science in Biology 

UB’s Master of Arts and Master of Science in Biology degree programs offer a contemporary curriculum that emphasizes the principles and experimental approaches of modern biology. They are designed to address the diverse needs of each type of graduate-level biology student. Both programs cover a wide-range of biological sub-disciplines, such as toxicology, ecology, and genetics, to prepare you for greater opportunities both professionally and academically.

Purpose and Objectives

The program will prepare graduates to:

  • Search, read and interpret current biological literature
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the scientific issues of a particular area of biology
  • Develop expertise in research methods associated with an area of biology
  • Develop professional skills related to work in a specific area of biology or biomedical science
  • Integrate techniques, skills, and understanding of scientific principles across various area sub-disciplines of biology

The MS program will also develop independent scientific research skills, including the ability to:

  • Formulate scientific hypotheses, design and execute experiments
  • Collect, analyze and interpret experimental data
  • Deliver scientific ideas and experimental results both at scientific meetings and through preparation and publication of manuscripts
  • This option emphasizes design and execution of experimental work. In this program, you will be required to complete a thesis featuring your original research. Students in this program will most likely be pursuing terminal degrees following the completion of their degree.

Academic records

Submit official/notarized/certified/or attested copies of ALL post-secondary school (university/college) records with a proof of graduation, if available. This includes mark sheets, academic transcripts, final examination results, diplomas, and degree certificates from every college or university attended showing course work, grades, number of credit hours, and conferral of degree(s), if available. Applicants from India should submit their individual semester mark sheets. Failure to provide all academic records may result in denial of admission, admission and scholarship revocation, and/or refusal of transfer credit.

Proof of English proficiency

International students are required to submit official proof of English proficiency, dated within the last two years, for direct admission into an academic program. See a full list of ways to demonstrate your proficiency in English, such as TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, and PTE.

At least two letters of recommendation

Provide two letters of recommendation in English. These letters may be submitted online, or come in a sealed envelope from professors or employers who can attest to the applicants attainments and potential for success at the graduate level. No special form is required.

A personal statement or essay

Submit an original personal statement/essay (250-500 words) CLEARLY explaining why the particular academic program was chosen, what the degree will do for the applicants personal and career development, and how such a degree will help them achieve future goals and aspirations. Include professional plans for after the program is completed.

A resume or C.V.

Submit a resume or C.V. reflecting academic and work experience. Students with no work experience may still apply.

A current passport copy

Applicants currently in the United States planning to transfer their SEVIS record to University of Bridgeport must also submit a copy of their Visa showing their entry stamp and copies of all I-20s received. Applicants planning to bring dependents should also submit copies of those dependents passports, visas, I-20s, birth certificates, and marriage licenses as well.


USCIS requires that students on F1 Visas show proof of funding for a full academic year. Applicants should submit an original or color-scanned bank statement showing readily accessible, liquid assets. If the account is not in the applicants name, please complete and submit the Financial Statement for International Students Form (FSIS). The bank statement must be no more than 6 months old, in English, and it must be in the same name as the sponsor. If being sponsored by a government or company, please submit a letter of financial guarantee with the FSIS form.

A deadline is the last possible date the university will review an application for admission into a particular semester. You may submit your application for admission up to twelve months in advance of the semester in which you wish to begin your studies at UB.

To meet our application deadline, we strongly recommend that you apply as soon as possible, as we receive a high volume of applications throughout the year.

  • Spring deadline: December 1
  • Fall deadline: July 15

It is highly recommended that you apply and submit ALL the required admission materials at least one month before the deadlines.
