Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity

There are two types of people in this world: those who know they've been hacked and those who don't know it yet. In all seriousness, the field of cybersecurity is exploding because every organization needs it. If this field interests you, keep reading!

Why Study Cybersecurity at Northwest

If you've ever considered studying cybersecurity, now's the perfect time. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, information security jobs will grow 35 percent in the next decade. That's huge! You probably can guess why, though. With everything becoming digital, cybersecurity is critical.

By definition, cybersecurity is the protection of infrastructure, systems, devices, networks, information and applications from attacks, damage, loss or unauthorized access. Any organization is susceptible to cyberattack, no matter the industry or size. Throughout this program, you'll gain a strong understanding of computer systems, including hardware, networks, operating systems, information assurance and programming. You'll also learn how to analyze computing problems and identify solutions to ensure a secure and safe network for your company. Our program has been validated by the National CAE-CD (Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense).

You may be wondering what makes our program better than other schools. For starters, we believe in learning by doing. We have recently built a cybersecurity lab with modern servers, computers, and network devices where students can conduct many cybersecurity activities. Furthermore, projects and assignments are designed to give students a taste of what their future jobs could look like. For example, you'll get into teams and apply legal and ethical principles to make smart judgments in a computing context. By the end of this program, you'll be an expert in security and will be able to help protect your future company from any risks or threats.

Freshman admission for international students is evaluated on an individual basis. Admission is offered to students who possess academic qualifications equivalent to those required for domestic first-time freshmen. Consideration is given to the courses taken and grades received in secondary school, as well as to results of school leaving examinations and certificates. The integrity of the student's native educational system is respected in regard to the university entrance requirements in the native country. Students not eligible for university admission in their native country will not likely be granted admission to Northwest.

For comparison purposes, admission requirements for domestic first-time freshmen must include the following:

  1. A minimum high school grade point average of 2.00 or "C" average and;
